DAY 2: REBUILDING LIVES: HOW RAYEES FOUND HOPE AMID HARDSHIP

In the remote village of Zarkan located in District Shopian, Rayees Ahmad Rather, a 35-year-old skilled carpenter, faced years of financial struggle. In 2022, disaster struck when a devastating landslide destroyed his home, leaving Rayees, his elderly parents, wife, and three children with no choice but to move into an unsafe rented house. Despite owning 2 canals of apple orchard land, Rayees could barely generate enough income to cover the cost of fertilizers and pesticides, leaving virtually nothing for living expenses. His carpentry business, once a promising source of income, struggled due to a lack of proper tools and resources.
In 2024, CHINAR International stepped in to support Rayees by providing him with essential carpentry tools to revitalize his business. DAY 3 : A STORY OF RESILIENCE, GROWTH AND IMPACT – SUPPORT ZAMEERA IN HER JOURNEY OF CHANGE

My name is Zameera Bano, a 25-year-old from Sumbal Arampora. Despite the challenges of growing up in a patriarchal society, I have carved my path as an educator and changemaker. Armed with an M.A. from IGNOU and a B.Ed. from ARR College of Education, my passion for education led me to join CHINAR International in 2022.
At CHINAR, I have transformed a modest Community Learning Center (CLC) into a beacon of hope. From teaching basic skills to bridging significant learning gaps, I’ve nurtured over 52 students, helping 15 graduate successfully. My efforts have redefined education for our community—introducing Parent-Teacher Meetings, encouraging parental engagement, and fostering a culture that values learning.
I dream of empowering more children, proving the worth of daughters, and inspiring lasting change in community through education. With your help, we can expand CHINAR’s efforts and bring transformative opportunities to more underserved communities. Today, my neighbors tell my mother, “With daughters like Zameera, there is no need for sons.” Alhamdulillah, I am proud to have achieved this milestone.
