Zahid Ahmad is working as a Field Associate in the Child Development vertical at CHINAR International. Waseem Khan is a dedicated and hardworking professional who has been associated with CHINAR International for the past three years under the Child Development Program. He currently serves as a Field Associate in District Budgam, actively working in remote areas such as Arizal, Hardapanzoo, and surrounding communities.He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Science and a Master’s degree in Geology from the University of Kashmir. Being a local, he possesses in-depth knowledge of the community, enabling him to effectively engage with families and understand their socio-economic challenges.Throughout his journey with CHINAR, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to the development and well-being of children. He is deeply passionate about uplifting families and is particularly focused on improving living conditions, education, and the overall development of children in underserved areas. In his leisure time, he enjoys listening to music, exploring nature, and playing cricket.
I am Waseem Ahmad Bhat from Heerpora, Shopian, holding a postgraduate degree in Master of Social Work (MSW). I have consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to child welfare and community development throughout my professional journey.
I began my career as a Field Officer with the Heerpora Markhor Recovery Project, where I developed hands-on experience in community engagement and field-level implementation. I further strengthened my skills while working as a Social Worker with the Wildlife Trust of India, where I focused on nomadic and herder communities, supporting vulnerable families and addressing their socio-economic challenges.
On 1st October 2024, I joined Chinar International as a Field Monitor under the Parvaaz Program. Through dedication, consistent performance, and effective community engagement, I progressed to the role of Community Mobilizer under the Child Development Program.
Currently, I am actively working across three communities in Shopian, leading grassroots interventions, mobilizing communities, supporting child-focused initiatives, and ensuring effective program implementation. My work involves close coordination with families, children, and stakeholders to improve access to education, protection, and development opportunities.
With proven field experience, strong communication skills, and a deep understanding of community needs, I am committed to taking on greater responsibilities and contributing more effectively to organizational goals and child development initiatives.
Wajahat Ali is from Rakhi Daslipora village in Singpora Tehsil of Baramulla district. He has completed his Bachelor’s in Science and Master’s in Social Work. He has more than one and a half years of experience as a community mobilizer in CHINAR international’s Child development under PARVAAZ, where he worked closely with people at the community level. He has also worked as a teacher for two years in Al- Hadi institute and volunteered with different NGOs. He is interested in education, helping people, and working for the development of his community.
Umer Qadir joined CHINAR International in December 2025, serving as a Field Monitor for the Chalyen Chontinar region in Budgam. He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree along with a specialized qualification as a Medical Lab Technician. This academic background, combined with his field experience, helps him bring a disciplined and thoughtful approach to field monitoring and community health initiatives. Before joining CHINAR International, Umer worked with the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-2023), where he carried out data collection and field activities across all 22 districts of Jammu & Kashmir. Through this wide regional exposure, he has developed strong field experience and the ability to work effectively in diverse and challenging environments while engaging closely with communities. He believes that humanitarian work creates meaningful value for society. His efforts are focused on serving communities, with a strong commitment to empowering and supporting marginalized groups.
Sideeq joined CHINAR International in February 2025 as a Program Manager, bringing over 11 years of experience in the development sector. A postgraduate professional, he specializes in designing and implementing rights-based programs for marginalized and vulnerable communities. Hailing from Pulwama, Sideeq brings strong grassroots experience, having worked closely with children, youth, and distressed populations. He has collaborated effectively with government bodies, NGOs, and community stakeholders to deliver impactful and sustainable development interventions. With extensive expertise in planning and executing field-level programs, he possesses a deep understanding of community realities and social challenges. His work reflects a strong commitment to inclusive development and creating lasting, meaningful change.
Showkat Ahmad Dar joined CHINAR International in May 2025 as a Program Officer, contributing to the organization’s Quality Education initiatives. He is an experienced development professional, academic, and social researcher with over 16 years of expertise in education, community engagement, and social development. A Gold Medalist in Sociology from the University of Kashmir and UGC-NET qualified, he combines strong academic grounding with extensive field experience in designing and implementing community-centered interventions. Showkat has also served as a Course Coordinator and Academic Counselor at IGNOU, Srinagar from 2009 to 2025, mentoring learners and guiding research. He has also taught at various government colleges across Jammu and Kashmir, fostering critical thinking and sociological understanding among students. At CHINAR International, he supervises Reading Corners and Community Learning Centers in Warwan and supports schools under the 100 TWC Fellowship through training and academic guidance. Deeply passionate about quality and inclusive education, he focuses on improving learning outcomes and strengthening community participation. His experience includes working with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and Project Sahyog, along with research collaborations with ActionAid, Media Education Kashmir University and TISS, focusing on marginalized communities and social development. He has been extensively writing research papers/articles both for International and National Journals. Besides he had attended dozens of Conferences, seminars and workshops on different themes.
Designation: My name is Shahid Ul Islam and I am from Akingam.I have had a strong interest in working with children from the beginning of my career. I started as a teacher and later worked as an Education Fellow in a Home-Based Learning Program, where I identified school dropouts and facilitated their re-enrollment in formal schools.
After that, I worked as a team member with Child Helpline 1098, focusing on child protection issues and supporting vulnerable children. I then served as a Cluster Facilitator in the Anganwadi Adoption Program, where I contributed to developing model ICDS centers and provided training to ICDS functionaries on the Nanha Kadam curriculum.
On 1st October 2024, I joined Chinar International as a Field Monitor under the Parvaaz Program. Currently, I am working as a Field Associate in the Child Development Program.
Shafqat Ramzan is a dedicated social work professional with a Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW), a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), and a Diploma in Computer Applications. With over seven years of experience in the development sector, she has worked extensively on community development, youth empowerment, and education initiatives across Jammu & Kashmir.
She began her career with GAASH NGO, contributing to community upliftment programs, and later served as a Cluster Facilitator with the Jammu and Kashmir Association of Social Workers (JKASW), where she played a key role in implementing Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) projects supported by the Tata Relief Committee.
She further strengthened her experience with the Indo Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) as a Paid Volunteer and later as a Community Mobilizer, focusing on youth development through leadership programs, life skills training, career counselling, and climate awareness initiatives. Currently, Shafqat works as a Program Associate under the Child Development vertical at CHINAR International, contributing to the holistic development of children and adolescents from underserved communities.
She also leads the Life Crafters Program, designing and delivering modules on communication, critical thinking, leadership, and employability skills.
Hailing from the remote village of Zoogu in Budgam, Saqib is currently working as a Field Monitor with CHINAR International under the Child Development Program. In this role, he actively engages with communities to support vulnerable children and strengthen grassroots interventions.
In 2024, following the loss of his father, Saqib joined the organization—a turning point that strengthened his sense of responsibility and deepened his commitment to serving others. Alongside his professional responsibilities, he is pursuing his Bachelor’s degree, reflecting his dedication to continuous learning and personal growth. Saqib is passionate about community service and remains committed to creating a positive and lasting impact in the lives of children and their families.
Shazia is a Media and Communication Specialist at CHINAR International, where she has been working since June 2025. With a strong background in journalism, she brings years of experience in storytelling into the development space. She holds a Master’s in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Kashmir and, as a Ford Foundation Fellow, pursued another Master’s in Print and Multimedia Journalism from Emerson College, Boston, United States. She has worked as a journalist, an independent writer, and taught journalism for five years at the Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora, after qualifying UGC NET.
She is currently pursuing her PhD at the Media Education and Research Department at the University of Kashmir. An award-winning storyteller, her shift from media to development comes from a simple but powerful desire—to go beyond telling stories and become part of the change she once reported on. In her free time, she writes stories.
Muzayan Bashir holds a Master’s degree from Indira Gandhi National Open University. She is recognized for her strong dedication, commitment, and a hands-on approach to her work.
She joined the organization in October 2024 as part of the Finance Department. Muzayan brings over five years of experience in the corporate sector, where she previously served as a Team Leader, developing solid expertise in finance, management, and coordination.
With a strong passion for contributing to efficient financial operations, Muzayan plays an important role in supporting the organization’s mission through her professionalism and attention to detail.
Muzamil Ahmad Dar is a dedicated Social Worker with a strong commitment to community development, child welfare, and quality education. He holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Kashmir and has practical experience in implementing education and community based programs in underserved areas. He has developed strong field experience in working with diverse communities, especially in rural and hard to reach regions. His work focuses on identifying local needs, building trust within communities, and ensuring effective implementation of development programs. Previously, Muzamil worked as a Block Coordinator with the Jammu and Kashmir Association of Social Workers under the Anganwadi Adoption Program from January 2023 to September 2024. In this role, he supported early childhood development initiatives, coordinated with stakeholders, monitored program activities, and strengthened service delivery at the grassroots level.
He also served as an Education Fellow with the same organization, where he contributed to improving learning outcomes and supporting facilitators. Muzamil has hands on experience in community mobilization through his work with ELFA International, where he worked for seven months to engage communities, conduct awareness sessions, and support local development initiatives. His ability to connect with people and encourage participation has been a key strength in his work.
He has also contributed as a volunteer with the National Service Scheme, University of Kashmir, for two years, focusing on social outreach, awareness campaigns, and community service activities. During this period, he actively participated in programs related to health, education, and social responsibility. He has also done internship with Integrated Child Protection Services at Anantnag, gaining exposure to child protection systems, case handling, and field level implementation. This experience strengthened his understanding of child rights and protection mechanisms.
In addition, he has volunteered with Help4All JK and supported blood donor groups in emergency and humanitarian response efforts. His involvement in these initiatives reflects his commitment to serving society beyond formal roles. With strong skills in community engagement, program coordination, communication, and teamwork, Muzamil remains committed to improving access to quality education and strengthening community participation in underserved communities. He continues to work towards creating sustainable and meaningful social impact.
Mumina is an experienced social work professional with Master’s degrees in Social Work and Rural Development, bringing over 12 years of dedicated experience in the social and community development sector. She has been extensively involved in field operations and community engagement, building strong connections at the grassroots level. For the past five years, Mumina has been associated with CHINAR, where she has played a key role in supporting initiatives focused on education, family development, and overall community welfare. Her work reflects a deep understanding of community needs and a commitment to sustainable development. Passionate about empowering communities, Mumina is driven to create meaningful and lasting impact, combining her strong field experience with a collaborative approach to achieving shared goals.
Meeran Bin Tariq is working as a Field Associate in the Child Development vertical, where he actively contributes to initiatives focused on the welfare and protection of children. He has completed his Higher Secondary education and brings valuable grassroots experience through his work as a volunteer with the Human Welfare Voluntary Organization. During this time, he was involved in a project aimed at strengthening community-based care mechanisms for children in need of care and protection in Kashmir. Meeran is committed to supporting child welfare initiatives and remains dedicated to contributing meaningfully to community-level development efforts.
Javaid Malik joined CHINAR International in May 2022 as a project coordinator for Quality Education Program. He brings more than three years of experience working in education through the “Skill India” program, where he worked within communities to spread awareness about community transformation and the importance of providing education to children. As a certified trainer under the “Retailers Association’s Skill Council of India,” Malik trained multiple batches under the program by imparting vocational education training to deserving individuals.
Despite being young, dynamic, and full of energy, Malik took on the challenge of working on foundational education in Warwan, a remote area in the Kishtwar district with limited communication, electricity, and road connectivity. During the summers, Malik spends a considerable amount of time in Warwan Valley to strengthen CHINAR’s “Warwan Valley Community Transformation Program.”

Mohammad Irfan joined CHINAR International in 2024 as a Field Associate, where he actively contributes to initiatives under the Child Development Program. He holds a Master’s degree in English, which complements his strong communication and interpersonal skills. Prior to joining CHINAR International, Irfan gained valuable experience as a volunteer with JKASW, where he was involved in community-focused activities. He also served as a full-time teacher at Sheikh ul Alam Secondary Educational Institute, Rahmoo, shaping young minds and fostering a supportive learning environment.Driven by a deep sense of social responsibility, Irfan remains dedicated to the upliftment of disadvantaged sections of society and continues to contribute meaningfully to community development efforts.

I joined CHINAR International on May 1, 2025, as a Field Monitor under Parvaaz program. Currently I am working as a Field Associate in the Child Development program.This is my first professional role, marking my entry into professional social work.
Moomin Nath is a young development professional based in Srinagar, dedicated to advancing community development initiatives. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education, which supports his strong understanding of grassroots engagement and social work. He joined CHINAR International in 2024 as a volunteer and, through his commitment and performance, progressed to the role of Field Associate. In this capacity, he works closely with local communities, focusing on understanding their needs and contributing to the effective implementation of grassroots initiatives. Moomin is passionate about creating meaningful impact and remains committed to strengthening community-driven development efforts.
Danish Ahmad Pala is a committed social worker with over 8 years of experience in community development, child protection, and mental health. He holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from IGNOU and has extensive field experience working with vulnerable populations across Kashmir. His work focuses on strengthening community-based systems, promoting child rights, and providing psychosocial support in challenging environments. Danish has worked with organizations such as the Jammu and Kashmir Association of Social Workers (JKASW), ELFA International, and the Human Welfare Voluntary Organization (HWVO), contributing to donor-funded projects supported by UNICEF, Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives (APPI), and the EY Foundation. His experience includes implementing child-friendly spaces, school safety programs, gender equity initiatives, and STEM-based learning interventions. He has demonstrated expertise in team coordination, capacity building, training facilitators, conducting assessments, and ensuring effective implementation of field-level activities. Currently, Danish is working with Chinar International Organization as a Field Officer in Pulwama and Shopian under the Quality Education Project. In this role, he supports learning initiatives, monitors community learning centres, engages with stakeholders, and contributes to improving access to quality education for children in underserved areas. In addition to his professional work, Danish has actively contributed to emergency response efforts, providing psychological first aid and counselling during COVID-19 and other crises. His skills in communication, coordination, and program implementation enable him to work effectively with diverse communities. With a focus on child protection, education, and psychosocial wellbeing, Danish remains committed to advancing sustainable and inclusive development.
Abdul Basit joined CHINAR International as a Programme Associate in 2025 and works closely with youth development and education initiatives. He has an educational background in Commerce from the University of Kashmir and experience in project coordination, operations management, stakeholder communication, and workflow optimization.
Passionate about creating meaningful impact within his community, Abdul has worked across startups, social initiatives, and operational roles that strengthened his ability to manage projects, coordinate teams, and support community-driven programs. His work focuses on improving operational efficiency, supporting youth-centered initiatives, and ensuring smooth coordination across projects and stakeholders. Anjum Nazir serves as a Field Officer in the Child Development vertical at CHINAR International, where she is actively engaged in advancing child welfare and community-based initiatives. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration, along with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and a Diploma in Computer Applications, reflecting her strong academic foundation and multidisciplinary expertise. With professional experience at the Human Welfare Voluntary Organization, Anjum has contributed significantly to community outreach and development programs, working closely with diverse populations. Her dedication to humanitarian service was evident during the 2014 floods, when she volunteered with the Red Cross Society, supporting relief operations and coordination efforts during a critical time. She has also served as a POCSO support person, providing compassionate assistance to children and their families in sensitive cases, demonstrating her commitment to protection and care.
Aijaz Ahmad Lone is a development practitioner from Hanjiwera, Pattan, District Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir. He holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and a Bachelor of Education. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Social Work, strengthening his engagement in community development and social impact initiatives. He brings over nine years of experience in the social development sector, with a strong grounding in field-based programme implementation. He is currently serving as a Field Officer with CHINAR International since October 2023, supporting programme implementation across Baramulla and Bandipora districts. In his current role, he monitors day to day activities at Community Learning Centres and partner schools, ensuring effective delivery of educational interventions and adherence to programme standards. Prior to this, he worked as a Professional Resource Person under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission. He also served as a Fellow with Haqdarshak Empowerment Solutions Pvt. Ltd., facilitating access to government welfare schemes. He has held the position of Chief Executive Officer at Surabhi Earth Foundations and contributed as a Volunteer with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Baramulla. Earlier, he worked as a private school teacher for three years. He has also been associated with survey-based assignments as a Supervisor, including IHDS 3 and PMGSY Impact Evaluation projects. His core areas of work include capacity building, community mobilization, financial inclusion, and financial literacy. He continues to contribute towards strengthening community systems through structured and impact-driven interventions.
After earning his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kashmir in 2024, Aafaq Ahmad began his professional journey with CHINAR International, where he gained valuable experience in social work while strengthening his professional skill set. His time with the organization has deepened his commitment to community development and meaningful social impact. Although he was selected for a Master’s program at the University of Jammu in 2024, Aafaq chose to continue his work with CHINAR International, prioritizing hands-on experience and real-world learning. He is driven by a strong passion for continuous learning and is dedicated to both personal and professional growth. Outside of his professional life, Aafaq enjoys staying active through sports, particularly volleyball and cricket, which reflect his team spirit and enthusiasm.
Born in November 1953, Altaf Hussain graduated in Science from the University of Kashmir and earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Management and Marketing in 1977. He began his professional journey in a State Public Sector Undertaking, holding senior management roles in the textile sector and contributing to the Woollen Tweed Project in Kashmir, including production management and international marketing.
In 2000, he was inducted into the Jammu & Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) in recognition of his outstanding service. During his government tenure, he worked across multiple departments, including Power Development, Revenue, Labour, Lakes and Waterways Development, and Tourism & Culture, retiring as Special Secretary, Tourism and Culture in 2011. He played a key role in promoting sustainable tourism, improving infrastructure, reforming regulatory frameworks, and strengthening heritage conservation initiatives.
For over a decade, he has been actively involved with the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), New Delhi, serving as Convener of the Kashmir Chapter, coordinating multidisciplinary teams on heritage preservation, educational initiatives, and cultural revival programs.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of CHINAR International Kashmir, bringing deep expertise in governance, sustainable development, and cultural heritage. He resides in Srinagar during summer and Jammu in winter, traveling as needed for professional and philanthropic commitments.
Dr. Farooq Ahmad Kaloo, BVSc & AH (Punjab Agricultural University, 1976), has devoted over four decades to livestock development, rural empowerment, and community welfare in Jammu & Kashmir. After joining the Animal Husbandry Department through the J&K Public Service Commission, he focused on improving livelihoods of marginalized communities using modern husbandry practices.
He served as a consultant for the Integrated Rural Development Programme, worked with the District Rural Development Agency, Budgam, and later led the Kashmir Livestock Development Board, establishing modern infrastructure, including a Liquid Nitrogen Plant, to advance frozen semen technology and enhance cattle productivity.
An expert in Animal Reproduction, IVF, and Andrology, Dr. Kaloo has published extensively in Urdu and English, organized national and international seminars, and contributed to the 16th, 17th, and 18th livestock censuses for developmental planning.
Since retirement, he has been actively engaged in social work, including initiatives with the Voluntary Medicare Society, Help Saba Cancer Charitable Trust, Syed Mirakshah Memorial High School, and several environmental and welfare NGOs.
His lifelong commitment to rural development, education, and health makes him a valuable member of our Board of Directors.
Having completed his bachelor’s degree in mass communication and multimedia production from Kashmir University in Srinagar. Pir Amaad Ashraf excels as a video editor and documentary filmmaking. His work is characterized by his meticulous attention to details and an unwavering passion for filmmaking. Amaad is passionate about his job, which gives him the chance to use a variety of skills and express his creativity. He puts his heart into everything he does, believing that his dedication and effort shine through in the reels he makes.
In November 2023, Suhaib began his role as a Field Officer for Rakhi Aarat in Srinagar under the Parvaaz Program at CHINAR. He has been a committed volunteer during the challenging periods of the 2014 floods and the COVID-19 pandemic. While his MBA from IKG Punjab Technical University provided a solid foundation in management, he initially had limited experience in social work. During his time at CHINAR, he has fully immersed himself in the field, actively participating in community projects and gaining valuable hands-on experience.
This journey has significantly enhanced his understanding and skills, allowing him to contribute more effectively to his role and make a meaningful impact.
Shahid joined CHINAR International as a Procurement Officer in August 2023. He holds a Master’s degree in Commerce and an O-Level certification in Computer Applications. With over 8 years of diverse professional experience, Shahid began his career in the skill development sector as an Information Technology Trainer and Management Information Systems Coordinator. Shahid also holds a Standard Operating Procedure certification at the operational level in Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDUGKY), which further enhances his expertise in project management and procurement processes. His extensive interaction with youth through various skill development programs has equipped him with a strong understanding of their challenges and aspirations, enabling him to mentor and guide them effectively.
Arif Majeed Dar, a resident of Pattan, Baramulla, is a development professional with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in History. He has also completed a course in NGO Management from IGNOU. He has over 8 years of work experience in different roles, including working as an Uber Driver Support Specialist in Indore, a teacher in private schools, an announcer, and a volunteer with NGOs. These roles have helped him build good communication and community skills.
He joined CHINAR International in July 2022 as a Facilitator and later became a Field Monitor. Currently, he is working as a Community Mobilizer in Baramulla district. He works closely with communities, supports programs, and helps improve the lives of people.

Natasha Rather has been working with CHINAR International since 2023, bringing over 13 years of extensive experience in the development sector with national and international organizations. Specializing in program management, Natasha is committed to a rights-based approach to empowerment and development and using knowledge sharing and capacity building to garner change. Natasha’s areas of expertise include gender justice, child rights, community development and strategic communications.
Rameez is a dynamic individual with a rich and extensive experience of 12 years in skill development. Holding a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Kashmir, he has worked on various livelihood projects, which have further enhanced his exposure and knowledge in the field. He is well-versed in the challenges currently facing the youth of Kashmir, such as unemployment and drug addiction. With a goal to address these issues and work towards the betterment of the youth, Rameez joined CHINAR International in 2023 as a Project Coordinator in Youth Development. For Rameez, working at CHINAR has been dynamic, as he feels there is something new to learn every day, which aids his personal growth and fosters a strong team spirit.
Dawood Rashid is an experienced Management Information Systems (MIS) professional with over 8 years of hands-on experience in data management, system development, and process digitization. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and certified through the Google Data Analytics Program, he combines strong technical expertise with practical field-level implementation. At CHINAR International, he leads the design and implementation of centralized data platforms, enhancing transparency, efficiency, and decision-making.
He has been instrumental in the implementation of digital platforms enabling real-time data collection, automated workflows, and efficient beneficiary management. Dawood works closely with technical teams and stakeholders to design, test, and optimize data systems, ensuring smooth operations and informed decision-making.
His contributions have significantly reduced manual processes and enhanced organizational efficiency. He is passionate about leveraging technology to create scalable solutions in the development sector, particularly in the areas of child welfare and community development.
Aijaz Rasool is a dedicated Social Worker with a passion for community development, child welfare, and youth empowerment. He holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Kashmir and has extensive experience in implementing educational and humanitarian programs in challenging environments.
Previously, Aijaz led Education and Youth development initiatives in Warwan, Kishtwar, working in remote and resource-limited regions to uplift marginalized communities through quality education programs. Kulsum Ashraf is a resident of Palpora, Srinagar, and a committed development professional with over 10 years of experience in the social sector. Throughout her career, she has worked with reputable organisations such as SOS Children’s Village and Childline, contributing significantly to community welfare, child protection, and social development initiatives.
In August 2022, she joined CHINAR International as a CLC Facilitator. Recognising her dedication, leadership abilities, and impactful performance, she was later promoted to Community Mobilizer under the PARVAAZ Programme, where she continues to play an important role in empowering communities and supporting vulnerable families.
She has completed her Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and is currently pursuing her Master of Social Work (MSW) through IGNOU at Amar Singh College. Her educational journey reflects her commitment to continuous learning and professional excellence.
Her expertise includes community mobilisation, youth empowerment, livelihood promotion, education support, women empowerment, child development, case identification, need-based assessments, and implementation of sustainable community interventions. Uzma Fayaz has been an educator for the past five years and is currently working at CHINAR International as an Assistant Project Coordinator, Quality Education. She is from Shehri-e-Khas, Srinagar, and holds a Postgraduate degree in Linguistics and a B.Ed. from the University of Kashmir. Uzma is driven by the belief that she can make a real difference in children’s lives through quality education. She sees the benefits of her role as multi-faceted, primarily finding satisfaction in contributing to society by helping children receive quality education, which, in turn, allows them to evolve and grow.
From a young age, Asif was passionate about helping children and his community. This deep-seated passion ultimately guided him to pursue a career in this field. The University of Kashmir’s Department of Social Work is where Asif Rehman finished his master’s degree. Asif has a wealth of expertise in dealing with communities for bringing social transformation, especially working in remote and challenging areas. In order to coordinate the district operations of Anantnag and Kulgam in South Kashmir, Asif joined CHINAR International in April 2023. Additionally, in a highly challenging and isolated location in the Warwan area of the Kishtwar district, Asif worked to mobilize the masses for social change.
Javaid Malik joined CHINAR International in May 2022 as a project coordinator for Quality Education Program. He brings more than three years of experience working in education through the “Skill India” program, where he worked within communities to spread awareness about community transformation and the importance of providing education to children. As a certified trainer under the “Retailers Association’s Skill Council of India,” Malik trained multiple batches under the program by imparting vocational education training to deserving individuals.
Despite being young, dynamic, and full of energy, Malik took on the challenge of working on foundational education in Warwan, a remote area in the Kishtwar district with limited communication, electricity, and road connectivity. During the summers, Malik spends a considerable amount of time in Warwan Valley to strengthen CHINAR’s “Warwan Valley Community Transformation Program.”

Bashir has extensive professional experience spanning over 18 years, having worked in various organizations such as the Centre for Health Research and Innovations, International Committee of the Red Cross, Hope Disability Centre, Handicap International, and Medicines Sans Frontiers. During this time, he has held diverse roles such as LTBI coordinator, economic security generalist, project MIS officer, project MIS assistant, and data entry officer. Bashir holds a Bachelor’s degree and has undergone professional training in result-based management, leading a team, and microeconomic initiatives. Additionally, he possesses technical skills in Microsoft Office, internet browsing, and database management.
Currently, Bashir leads Youth Development Vertical.
Zafar Iqbal is a Project Coordinator for Youth Development at CHINAR International with a wealth of experience in the field. With a career spanning 10 years and multiple organizations, Zafar is highly skilled in preparing PPRs and DPRs and mobilizing communities through dialogue, awareness raising, and using PRA/RRA tools to identify local problems and solutions. Zafar’s expertise lies in research, training, evaluation, and community mobilization. He has worked with a range of organizations, and his experience has equipped him with the ability to take on complex challenges. Zafar is passionate about using his skills and knowledge to challenge the status quo and make a positive difference in the world.
Gulzar Wani is an experienced humanitarian and development professional with over 20 years of expertise in improving the lives of vulnerable communities, particularly children, youth, women, and marginalized groups. As Program Lead at CHINAR International, he leads a team of 100 professionals across 12 districts, driving large-scale initiatives in education, socio-emotional learning, digital literacy, reading programs, and leadership fellowships. His work has significantly contributed to strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN), improving classroom practices, and building community-driven learning ecosystems through Community Learning Centers (CLCs) and school transformation programs.
With deep experience in the education sector, Gulzar has designed and implemented remedial education programs aligned with national frameworks such as NEP 2020 and NIPUN Bharat. He has led capacity-building initiatives for teachers and school leaders, focusing on child-centric pedagogy, inclusive education, and experiential learning. His efforts have helped bridge critical learning gaps, improve student retention, and create safe, engaging, and joyful learning environments for children in low-resource and conflict-affected settings.
Gulzar is passionate about youth empowerment and has organized multi-stakeholder dialogues on peace, democracy, and human rights, enabling young people to emerge as community leaders and change-makers.
His extensive experience also includes capacity-building and training programs for organizations like RedR India and Oxfam, enhancing staff capabilities in disaster preparedness, hygiene promotion, and public health. Gulzar has collaborated with organizations such as UNICEF, ActionAid India, and RedR India, managing multi-sectoral projects supported by donors like ECHO, DEC, and UK AID. He led disaster response operations during Cyclone Phailin, supporting the development of disaster-resilient shelters, access to safe drinking water, and improved hygiene practices.
With an academic background in International Peace and Conflict Studies, his leadership reflects a strong commitment to compassionate leadership, educational equity, youth empowerment, and resilience-building.
Dr. Sawleha Qadir is a veterinarian with Master’s degree in Veterinary Sciences. Before joining CHINAR, she worked as a Lecturer in Veterinary college. She is very passionate about teaching. She joined CHINAR in 2021 as Project Coordinator under Quality Education Program. Her joining in CHINAR has made the CHINAR team more diverse. Sawleha is an active, young, dynamic lady full of energy with an obsession to serve people especially the marginalized children. She has immense management qualities and has established strong rapport with students and teachers of Community Learning Centers.
Waheed joined CHINAR International in the year 2021 as a driver cum office associate and is now responsible for office security and maintenance as well. He is a reliable person and is keen to learn more and develop new skills. Travelling with him makes every trip memorable with his meticulous approach. Along with routine office work, he aspires to pursue a master’s degree in social work (MSW) and is currently in 2nd year of his college. He is a very hard-working boy and loves to engage in multiple tasks. Waheed is a fitness freak and loves to work out in his spare time.
Hanief Ahmad Bhat hails from Gadakhud village located in Bandipora district. Hanief has completed a Masters degree in social work and B.Ed. from Tahira Khanums College of Education. Having over 8 years of experience in the development sector, Hanief has worked on multiple projects like youth development, disaster management, relief and rehabilitation and sustainable livelihood development programs in Baramulla and Bandipora districts. He worked at IGSSS for 6 years to deliver sessions on leadership, life skills, communication, self-awareness, gender, and disaster management, PRI micro-plans development at village and panchayat levels and livelihood.
Dr Masood Hassan is a native of Kashmir and obtained his BSEE in 1971 from Kashmir University. He got admitted to West Virginia University (WVU) in the U.S. in 1974 to pursue his post-graduate studies. He obtained his MSEE in 1976, and his PhD. in 1979.
After his graduation from WVU, Dr. Hassan pursued a career in industry. He moved out West to Los Angeles, California and joined Jet Propulsion Labs in Pasadena CA and then to the Bechtel Corporation.
Dr. Hassan joined Teledyne Controls in 1983 as a Senior Member of Technical Staff. He worked in various engineering and business development assignments before being promoted in 2000 to lead the company as the Vice President/ General Manager and then President. Under his leadership, Teledyne Controls grew to be the leader of the Big Data and the Digital revolution in the commercial aviation industry. Its products enjoy about a whopping 75% market share within the air transport category of Boeing and Airbus commercial airplanes. He also led Teledyne Controls to be among the most profitable of the 30+ companies that constitute Teledyne Technologies.
He retired form Teledyne in 2019. In April 2021 he was inducted into the WVU School of Engineering Academy of Distinguished Alumni. He is currently involved in promoting Educational and Charitable ventures for deserving and needy youth in his native Kashmir.
Dr. Mushtaq A. Margoob, – Former Professor & Head, Post Graduate Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College, Srinagar and Director Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience, Srinagar, Kashmir is an internationally recognized expert on humanitarian emergencies and disaster mental health . Dr. Margoob’s research work encompasses a wide range of topics ranging from seasonal mood disorders to drug use problems and stress. Over the past 28 years besides behavioral neurosciences, the focus of his work has been on coping, resilience and vulnerability following traumatic stress resulting from man-made and natural disasters in the developing world and its impact on the individuals as well as communities as a whole. Dr Margoob is currently on the Editorial board of two international and two national journals including the Indian Journal of Psychiatry. He is a member/fellow of a number of international professional bodies.
Tariq Ahmad Khoja is a dedicated and hardworking professional with 12 years of experience in the school sector. He has completed his higher secondary education and developed strong practical knowledge through extensive fieldwork and community engagement. For the past seven years, he has been associated with CHINAR International as a Field Monitor, actively involved in monitoring school activities, tracking attendance, conducting field visits, and supporting program implementation. He works across all organizational verticals, strengthening his adaptability and understanding of diverse programs. Tariq possesses strong coordination and communication skills, enabling him to engage effectively with schools, families, and team members. He is committed to his work and strives to create a positive impact through sincerity and dedication. Tariq enjoys sports and has a keen interest in playing cricket.
Rafi joined CHINAR International in 2020 as a Mess Incharge and has since grown into the role of Mobility Executive as well. Along with preparing delicious meals, he efficiently manages housekeeping responsibilities at the office and assists with printing and document deliveries. Known for his cheerful personality and sense of humor, Rafi brings energy, laughter, and smiles wherever he goes.
Iqra Qayoom – a young and energetic lady, joined CHINAR International as a Project Coordinator under the Child development program. She completed her master’s in social work from Kashmir university. Being a professional social worker, she has worked with multiple child related projects supported by UNICEF. Iqra is among the best choices when it comes to building rapport with the communities. She has attended many trainings relevant to development and protection of children.
In her leisure time, Iqra listens to Sufi music and likes cooking and reading as well.
Zeba is a technology leader at Fannie Mae, responsible for transforming and modernizing the customer facing portfolio of applications focusing on business process, digitization, UI/UX and customer enrichment. Zeba has an Engineering degree from the University of Kashmir combined with an MBA from the University of British Columbia. Outside of daily work, Zeba is passionate about the advancement of women in Technology and an active member of the WIT advisory board for her company.
Zeba gives a lot of her time to mentor women both within and outside of Fannie Mae and engages in events across the industry. On the lighter side, she writes a food blog that brings global recipes (including Kashmiri) to the digital world.
Zeeshan is a dedicated professional hailing from a remote village in Budgam. His journey in the development sector began in 2014, when he joined CHINAR International as a volunteer during the devastating floods. Since then, he has taken on diverse roles and responsibilities, demonstrating strong adaptability and multitasking abilities. Over the years, he has contributed across key areas including Youth Development, Child Development, Operations, and Procurement. With over 12 years of experience in the development sector, he has built a strong foundation in community service and program implementation. Currently, he serves as a Field Officer in Srinagar district, where he continues to actively support community development initiatives. Academically, he holds a Bachelor’s degree and is currently in the second year of his Master’s in Social Work through IGNOU.

In 2012, Imtiyaz Malik joined CHINAR International as a driver and now is responsible for office security, transport and maintenance. Imtiyaz may not have received formal schooling, but over the years he has developed good knowledge about the social sector. He understands and believes in CHINAR’s mission and is at the forefront of most CHINAR projects. He was there during the floods of 2014, past lockdowns and hartals in Kashmir. Imtiyaz is an exceptional driver who knows the roads and lanes of Kashmir.Team loves to travel with him as he makes every trip enjoyable and full of fun.Besides managing field trips,he is also responsible for office security.
He is an all-rounder who will lend his hands to anything – packing kits, loading, cooking, photography, etc.
Falak has done Masters in business administration with specialization in IT and marketing from Kashmir University. Before joining CHINAR International, she interned with local corporates like JK Bank, Reliance Jio Ltd and hotel industry. She is highly passionate towards empowering Kashmiri youth to make them self-reliant and independent leaders.
She also interned with CHINAR International, which further motivated her to join the organisation. Under youth development, she runs various programs like business incubation, skill development centres, E-Labs, etc. As a Finance Officer, she maintains financial records and ensures smooth transactional processes.
She believes that no job is as worthy and satisfying as working for the welfare of the society.
Manshah joined in 2018 as an intern and now is a Senior Project Coordinator – Youth Development. Manshah holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Kashmir University. She left her Tech school in Mumbai and came back to Kashmir to serve people of her own community. She is passionate about bringing healing to people with traumatic stories and giving them a chance to create better stories. Besides working in education, she is also a part of CHINAR’s E-Lab Program at higher secondary schools.

A dedicated social worker and educator with over seven years of experience in the development sector, Ambreen Bhat currently serves as a Programme Officer at CHINAR International, contributing significantly to advancing quality education initiatives across Kashmir. With a Master’s degree in Social Work and a strong foundation built through hands-on field experience, she has consistently demonstrated leadership in designing, implementing, and managing impactful education programs. Ambreen began her journey with CHINAR International as an intern in 2018 and has steadily progressed into leadership roles, reflecting her commitment, capability, and deep understanding of community dynamics. Over the years, she has played a pivotal role in managing large-scale education programs across multiple districts. Her core expertise lies in program planning and execution, stakeholder engagement, teacher capacity building, and community mobilization. She has successfully led initiatives such as Community Learning Centres (CLCs), fellowship programs, and school transformation projects, focusing on improving foundational learning, integrating digital literacy, and promoting 21st- century skills and socio-emotional learning among children. Ambreen is known for her ability to build strong relationships with schools, educators, and communities, ensuring meaningful participation and sustained impact. She has also been instrumental in designing and facilitating training sessions for educators, enhancing teaching methodologies through innovative and child-centric approaches. With a strong commitment to equity in education and community empowerment, Ambreen continues to drive programs that create inclusive learning environments and enable children to reach their full potential. Her work reflects a blend of strategic thinking, grassroots engagement, and a passion for transforming education systems.
Haris Aziz has completed his master’s in mass communication from IGNOU regional center Srinagar. He is a creative video editor and motion graphics artist with an excellent eye for detail and a deep passion for filming and animation. Before joining CHINAR, Haris worked with many media agencies as video editor and accomplished numerous freelance projects.
Mozam joined CHINAR International in 2016 as a Media Coordinator and now leads the media team. His role revolves around creating impactful stories of change through pictures, videos, documentaries, etc. using his technical skills and knowledge. Prior to joining the organization, Mozam worked with multiple national and international media channels and gained huge experience in creating impactful stories. Working in a social sector for the first time, Mozam quickly adapted to CHINAR International’s environment and work culture and now is the favourite teammate. Muazam also manages procurement and ensures protocols are being followed religiously.
Mozam is thrilled to have a job that allows him to use diverse skills and explore his creativity. He tries to put heart and soul into his work and believes that it shows in his photographs.
Mehreen joined CHINAR International during Kashmir floods in 2014 as a nodal person in Delhi and now works in multiple capacities – Assistant Lead – Child Development. Mehreen has completed her Master’s in Finance and Control from University of Kashmir and is dedicated towards working for the underprivileged. She previously worked with an NGO called Centre for Social Justice, also interned with the Reserve Bank of India. During floods 2014, she did a commendable job in coordinating all the relief consignments coming from India and USA. Over the years, she has taken up many different responsibilities with great success. Mehreen is also responsible for logistics during events, workshops, meetings and office trips. On procurement side, she has developed strong SOPs which are being followed religiously under her supervision.
Afifa joined in 2012 as a Project Coordinator and is now working as Assistant Director, Media, Communications & Special Projects. Holding a Master’s degree in social work, Afifa has done practical work on social issues like drug addiction, child protection and reproductive child health. Previously, she worked as a Research Associate for Indian Council of Medical Research-funded project on autism and Counselling Supportive Supervisor for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Counselling Program (GFATM). Through all these years, she has worked in multiple capacities across CHINAR’s core intervention areas. Networking, proposals, internships and evaluation are part of her role including all publications – annual reports, newsletters, brochures. Besides, she also manages social media and website. Afifa yearns to learn more every day and develop new skills. She has been working passionately towards CHINAR’s mission since years and named as Afifa CHINAR by many. Calling herself a social doctor, she believes social work nourishes her soul.
When operating from Delhi, Afifa becomes the nodal person when lockdown happens in Kashmir especially when connectivity is cut in Kashmir.
In 2011, Javeed joined CHINAR International as a researcher and since then has progressed to Assistant Director – Programs and Operations. Having a Master’s degree in finance and control, Javeed has hands-on experience in financial auditing. Before joining CHINAR International, Javeed tried several options to realize his potential as a key player in challenging, dynamic and creative environments, and believes his quest completed at CHINAR International. He has been on the forefront of CHINAR International’s crisis relief work since the floods of 2014. Under his supervision, CHINAR International’s external audits have been error free for the past six years. Javeed is an energetic and enthusiastic young leader with a passion to serve society. With his strong leadership skills, Javeed leads the team on ground in an exemplary manner.
Pioneer in lifestyle disorders and obesity management, Dr. Zahida is born and brought up in Kashmir. Dr. Zahida completed her MBBS from the Government Medical College, Srinagar, in 1995. In Kashmir, she has worked in both government and private sectors. Having witnessed and lived through the consequences of conflict, she always felt the worst victims of the conflict were the women and children. In her passion to live her dream and contribute to women’s health, she chose to give up a government job and established her own private clinic by the name “Mother care clinic in 2003. The clinic, which was much needed in these times, aimed at a holistic approach to women’s
health that included education, prevention, rehabilitation, and treatment of lifestyle and psychosocial disease among women. Dr Zahida has closely worked and always ready to work with any organization that shares the same aim and passion.
Dr. Mohammad Ishaq is a well-established biological researcher in the United States with over 30 years of experience at prominent US-based institutions. He is currently a senior researcher at the Leidos Biomedical Research in Frederick, MD, an affiliate of the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research, National Institutes of Health. He earned his Master’s in Biochemistry from Lucknow University (India), Ph.D. in Biochemistry from J.N. Medical College, AMU (India) and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Before coming to the U.S., he taught Biochemistry at the Govt Medical College (Kashmir) where he also managed the clinical laboratory of the department, and also served as a Senior Resident in the Clinical Biochemistry Department at the SKIMS (Kashmir). He is passionate about Kashmir and believes that social engagement and empowerment can alleviate the suffering of the marginalized communities.
Farooq grew up in Kashmir where he attended Kashmir University for his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering. He attended City University of New York for his Masters in Computer Science. He works for an international development bank in Washington DC. Farooq has been part of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society – ADAMS community in Northern Virginia since 2000. He has served ADAMS in the capacity of Secretary, Vice-President, and President. He is currently co-chair of ADAMS Zakat Services Committee and ADAMS By-laws committee. He also served on the board of ADAMS Compassionate Healthcare Network, a free medical clinic in Chantilly, Virginia. He was also a board member of ADAMS Endowment Fund for several years. Farooq has been married for 20+ years and has 4 children.
Abid Qadri is a Global Technology Solutions and Services Executive with over 20 years of experience providing strategic leadership, scaling businesses, and achieving operational efficiencies along with assembling and managing teams in the global technology and telecommunications marketplace.
Over his career Abid has worked for multinational companies including Wipro, Tata Group, Orange Business Services, to name a few, across different countries. Abid has held direct oversight of multimillion dollar budgets, adding to revenue that scaled to $400m+, and leading diverse global teams of 250+ people.
Experienced in effective and organization-wide influence to build consensus across key stakeholders, Abid brings decades of experience in using people skills, technology, and processes to enhance organizations’ performances while maintaining a strong commitment to integrity and accountability.
As a Co-Founder of Child Nurture and Relief, Abid has been an integral part of the organization through its formative years (2003-2012) and acted as an Officer. He rejoined the board in 2024.
After spending around two decades in corporate America, Irfan quit his job at Microsoft in 2011 to focus full time on CHINAR. Previously, he worked for US companies – DEC, Compaq, HP, and Fannie Mae.
Irfan has been instrumental in the progress of CHINAR being the chief architect both in USA and India. He runs a tight ship and has aggressively moved CHINAR into one of the top non-profits of J&K. He is driven to develop solutions that address the root cause of the problem related to youth and children of conflict – solutions that are sustainable, cost effective, scalable and high impact. Solid in principles and relentless in his pursuit for large scale social impact, Irfan envisions CHINAR to be one of the leaders in nonprofit space.
Irfan grew up in Kashmir, India. Education – BE from (NIT) Kashmir University, Srinagar (J&K) and MS from University of Florida, Gainesville. He is a founding member of both CHINAR organizations (VA, USA – 2003 and Srinagar, India – 2011).
